Medical help for our pets
Brandy’s Fund is a special fund set aside by SASF for our adoptable cats and dogs that have special medical needs. These needs range from necessary medications to life-saving surgeries. It is named after a chocolate Labrador retriever named Brandy that one of our volunteers fell in love with. Brandy was very dog aggressive and was going to have to be put down, but our volunteer raised money and got a large donation from a facility in the Bay Area that works with re-training dogs. She was trained and subsequently adopted by a great family. Brandy was probably the only pet to ever receive training through the fund; the majority of the cases have been fairly severe medical needs.
Cowboy and Morgan are two recipients of surgeries paid for with Brandy’s Fund money.
Cowboy, a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix puppy, was just eight weeks old when a horse stepped him and ruptured his abdomen. He was rushed to a vet, where he underwent surgery to reconstruct his abdomen. He recovered quickly, and is now living a full and happy life in Rio Vista.
Morgan, a Rottweiler mix puppy, was six weeks old when a volunteer first saw him at the shelter and noticed that his penis was not protruding from his body. A vet performed surgery on him to reroute his urethra so he could urinate properly, saving his life. Morgan also recovered fully and was adopted a couple weeks later.
These expensive, life-saving surgeries were paid for with Brandy’s Fund money, which is consists entirely of donations from the public.
